Privacy and Security

What is your consultant doing with your data? Do they have virus protection on their computer? Could they get hacked? Is loss of privacy and confidentiality of my data possible?

Via Evaluation wants to answer those questions, because we understand the importance of protecting the data you share with us. Here, you can read about the state of the art policies, practices, hardware, and software we have in place.

HIPAA and FERPA Compliance

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) form the basis for the protection of student (until age 18) and adult data privacy. The NY State Education Department used FERPA as the basis for their Student Data Privacy Bill of Rights, also known as the Parents’ Bill of Rights.

Everyone on our staff has received training and certification for computer and data security with MVP Network Consulting, LLC and HIPAA Secure Now! Our data systems are protected with encryption and we follow many other measures to achieve compliance. We receive regular external audits of our hardware, software, and training systems, as well as compliance measures to ensure data safety.

Virus Protection

Our server and personal computing devices are monitored 24/7 for virus and malware protection. Using the best software available, and working with TechNet Task Group, our computer and network technical consultants, we maintain our computing systems at the highest levels to ensure your data is safe.

Human Subjects

All staff have taken the required training to be certified in the protection of human subjects. The training is consistent with the requirements of the federal Office for Human Research Protections. As a result, all are able to work on projects requiring an Institutional Review Board, or IRB, approval.

Disaster Recovery

In the event of a natural disaster or some other unforeseen emergency, Via Evaluation has a Business Continuity Plan and complete protocols to be up and running within 1 day. This allows us to continue to provide our services with minimal interruption.

Ethics and Privacy

We train all staff in the American Evaluation Association Guiding Principles for Evaluators, and adhere to them in our practice. Maintaining integrity in our work is what sustains our organization, and it is one of our core values.

Insurance

We are fully covered by insurances required for external evaluators. These include General Liability, Workers Compensation, Privacy/Cyber Liability, and Errors and Omissions Insurance.
