March 22, 2017
Dr. Gary Ciurczak attended “Fulfilling the Promise of Bilingual Education Together,” the 40th Anniversary Conference of the New York State Association for Bilingual Education (NYSABE) March 2nd through the 4th, 2017 in White Plains, NY. While there he renewed ties with the many people and districts with which he and Via Evaluation has conducted Bilingual Education, dual language, and Multi-Language Learner research and evaluation since 1991. These have included two Big Four districts, the Buffalo City School District and the Syracuse City School District.
The conference was well attended by key personnel from districts, universities, and community-based organizations from across the state. Particularly welcome were supportive presentations from Chancellor of the New York State Board of Regents Betty Rosa, and Kate Menken, Ed.D. of Queens College, who spoke about “Bilingual Education Policy in the Trump Era.”
Ultimately, all plenary speakers had one message: supporting Bilingual Education is always a task requiring energy and constant activity. Everyone left the conference reconfirming and rededicating their energies to this task.
Via Evaluation has co-authored many dual language grant proposals, and conducted bilingual education, dual language, and multi-language learner research and evaluation for students in New York since 1991. Gary Ciurczak, President/CEO of Via Evaluation, attended this conference and the National Association of Bilingual Education (NABE) Conference earlier this year, to make new connections and stay up-to-date on the content and current activities and research in the field.
