The U.S. Department of Education recently announced its intention to award approximately $9 million to the Teacher Quality Partnership Grant (TQP) program. TQP funds partnerships between institutions of higher education and high-need local education agencies, schools, and early childhood education programs. The goal of these partnerships is to create model teacher preparation programs and teaching residency programs. By improving the quality of new teachers, TQP hopes to improve student achievement.
This year, funds will only be awarded to partnerships that implement teacher residency programs, and preference will be given to (1) new potential grantees and (2) potential grantees that intend to provide services in a Qualified Opportunity Zone. In 2019, grantees received awards ranging from $47,790/year to $1,494,943/year for five years. A list of previous grantees and funds awarded is available here.
We have evaluated many teacher quality grants, including TQP, and have worked with organizations during the grant writing process to refine program objectives and measures and write evaluation plans. In this year’s Notice Inviting Applications, quality of the project evaluation is worth 20 points.
Applications are due on July 2, 2020, so contact us soon if you are interested in working together!
